You have a LinkedIn profile, right? But when was the last time you touched it?

Probably when you were last job hunting, right?

Suffice to say, it had been several years since I’d given any thought to my LinkedIn account, and it was due for a serious overhaul.

Enter Joshua Jordison, a former side hustler turned full-time entrepreneur (primarily in the event production industry).

Joshua, who goes by JJ, walked me through step-by-step on how to turn my LinkedIn profile from zero to hero. We went through features and options I had no idea even existed, and he also shared how he’s rubbing elbows with some big name influencers on the site.

Even with near zero effort on LinkedIn, I’d managed to build a decent-sized network and was feeling pretty good about my presence there. I even thought it was pretty cool to see people like Pat Flynn and Tim Ferriss in my “People also viewed” section … until I saw JJ’s profile that had people like Richard Branson and Barack Obama, and a network 4-5x mine in size. That’s taking it to the next level!

I’m excited to share this episode because JJ shares exactly why LinkedIn is a GREAT platform for side hustlers to build their influence, their brands, and their business. And even systematically drive traffic to your website and email list.

Neglect this advice at your own peril!

  1. Great information about LinkedIn. I liked the strategies JJ provided. I am sure to implement some of the strategies.

I noticed you provided JJ’s and your links to LinkedIn? How do you connect with someone when you do not know their email address and you are not their “friend?”

  2. What’s up guys! Sorry for the delay in response. I had to have my Macbook completely wiped, over the weekend.

Be careful about adding too many people that you don’t know personally. If you do this too much, it’s possible that your Linkedin account can be suspended. This happens when the people you add notify Linkedin that they don’t know you.

The good news is that, if you use the strategies that I shared in the podcast properly, you will have people coming to you. If you absolutely must add people that you don’t know, going with the “friend” option or “have done business with” that Nick suggested is the way to do it.

If Linkedin prompts you to enter their email and you don’t know it… again… be careful about adding people you don’t know.

*There are a few tools you can use to get literally anyone’s exact email address, if they have a Linkedin account. I share these strategies in The LinkedInstitute Course that will be launching on January 12th. If you downloaded the free guide that I put together for Side Hustle Nation, I’ll be emailing you before launch to share at least one of those tools with you.

I’ve used those tools to successfully reach out to a lot of very influential people (household names) that most people would consider unreachable.

** If you guys have any other questions at all, post them here and I will answer them for you!

  3. Excellent podcast. This was exactly what I needed. I have heard before how powerful LinkedIn can really be, but this was an eye opener.

Hopefully the PDF will address this more (opted in but yet to receive it), however, where would a complete LInkedIn newbie go to get started, roll up their sleeves and master this?

  4. Hi Dave! I’m sorry about the delay in your getting the guide. My macbook crashed right after I appeared on the podcast and I thought the problem had been fixed… but it wasn’t. I should be back in good shape tomorrow or the next day and be able to send out all of the guides then.

  5. Hey Michael! That makes soooo happy! I’m so pumped that you got that much value out of it. Definitely pick up a copy of the guide that I put together for Side Hustle Nation listeners (mentioned above). When you get that, I’ll also send a few additional, free tips… some of which I didn’t have to time to talk about in the podcast.

    Have an awesome day!

    • Hi Darryl. You should have received a copy automatically. I did have one person sign-up with an email address that bounced. I think they entered their email incorrectly. Regardless, if you want to email me directly I’ll send you a copy right away: JJ at TheLinkedInstitute dot com

  6. This is a great podcast. LinkedIn is such an awsome resource. But I have a simple question for Joshua, Nick, or anyone else who has had experience with this topic. The question is: if you have a current full-time job, and a LinkedIn profile based on your current career, and you are starting a side business, should you create a brand new LinkedIn profile for that side business, or just add to your current profile? I am not worried about anyone seeing what I am doing. I am just wondering which is best to do if you are just starting out with a side business, no customers yet.

    Thanks.

  7. Everyone, my apologies for the site hiccups. Had some problems with Godaddy but it is all fixed now. I will be going through my files and sending out the strategy sheet manually. It should have been sent automatically.

  8. With havin so much content do you ever run into
any issues of plagorism or copyright violation? My
blog has a lot of unique content I’ve either authored myself or outsourced but it appears
a lot of it is popping it up all over the internet without my agreement.
Do you know any solutions to help reduce content from being stolen? I’d really appreciate it.
