Lise Cartwright and I originally connected in Pat Flynn’s Kindle author Facebook group. She “came out of nowhere” as they say, and published 13 books in 6 months, and now earns between $3000 and $4000 a month in author royalties.
Of course the truth is she didn’t come out of nowhere at all; she came out of New Zealand and had already built a successful freelance writing business. However, the hustle of delivering work for clients all day had her seeking a more time-leveraged use of her skills.
Since she already knew how to write well and write quickly, she figured book publishing was a natural next step. On this week’s episode, Lise explains how she invested in Chandler Bolt‘s Self-Publishing School to learn the ins and outs of the Kindle world, and hit the ground running after that.
Listen in to learn how she launched her original freelancing side hustle, when it became time to quit her job, and how she’s been able to create so much success on Amazon in such a short time.

Great show! Learned so much more about freelancing, and as a new Kindle publisher, I’m jealous, but motivated as a result of this show. Thank you, Lise.
Glad you liked it Mel — thanks for stopping by!
Hi. Looking forward to listening to this later when I have a moment. I did notice, though that the link to Lise’s books on Amazon actually goes to the Location Rebel website.
Ahh good catch, thanks Frank! Just updated.
I was pumped up to write some books BEFORE… but now I’m a bit more stoked, and perhaps clear about what my process will be. Good show. Timely for me.
Excellent! Always happy to provide some inspiration, and Lise sure did a great job of that!
I got the feeling that Lise got some help from Location Rebel, like maybe the contacts there used their existing lists to promote her first book? Her tips about the free sites was awesome but it seems like anyone who “makes it” had a hand up from someone already on the top of the mountain.
I’m not sure about that, though that is a killer marketing strategy. Either way, I think it makes sense to work your connections with people everywhere on the mountain, not just at the top. I can trace nearly every big “leap forward” in my business to my network, because we rarely get where we want to go all on our own.
Hey,
Just wanted to let you know, that that’s not always the case. I made $2000 last month (honestly, that’s not consistent.) and I barely know anyone at the top. I outsource the writing and have professional covers made and I learnt it all by simply doing research- just like listening to this podcast. Also, I’m pretty certain I could get to the point where Lise is and get a consistent level of income at that level and certainly even more as I continue to experiment and learn and tweak my strategy. All the while- with zero “lucky breaks” or help from the top.
Wow, nice work Ankit!
Definitely going to be doing a series of books as well. Fabulous guest, Nick, keep them coming! You are changing lives here.
