153: Zero to $20k a Month in a Year: 5 Ways to Completely Dominate Your Niche, with Jon Haws

Side Hustle Nation is dedicated to improving your personal profitability. To do this, we often partner with companies that share that mission. If you sign up or make a purchase through one of our partners’ links, we may receive compensation—at no extra cost to you. Learn more.

We’ve heard of niche sites seeing success with AdSense or Amazon Associates income, or even with selling private advertising, but Jon Haws took a completely different approach.

Jon’s a husband and a father of two, and if you’re a nursing student, you probably already know his name. He’s a long-time listener of the show and I’m excited to share his story.

Since last November, Jon has:

  • Released more than 150 podcast episodes.
  • Written nearly 3 dozen Kindle books.
  • Created the definitive course on pharmacy medications.
  • Built a nursing test-prep app that gets 100+ downloads a day.
  • Started to sell physical products for nursing students with Amazon FBA.

All told, these different channels — that didn’t even exist a year and a half ago — are earning more than $20,000 a month!

And most of this empire was built as a side hustle; it wasn’t until last August that Jon quit his nursing job to focus on the business full-time.

If you’re looking at a niche or authority business and need some new ideas on how to serve your audience, this is a can’t miss episode.

  1. So glad that you shared your takeaways from the show at the end. I thought that added value and a nice summary of some goals to take along at the end of the show.

    Nice touch!

  2. Another killer interview. The Nursing niche was very specific, but so easy to apply the insights Jon shared to whatever a person might be working on. Loved how he was hitting multiple distribution points with multiple products. Very helpful info. Definitely worth a second or third listen.

  3. Was it your podcast where you were interviewing an author, and there was discussion on which iOS Software or App was the best to be used by Authors…or better said, budding Authors?

  4. Listened to half of this last night and was amazed! What a HUSTLE MAN! Great Job!

I’m trying to figure out my focus so I don’t have a brand but have been teaching on Udemy. Without having an audience it has generated some income for me, but you really gave me some actionable steps to use now.

My wife is a full time surgical technician and we have 2 kids, a 2-year old and a 5-year old. So there’s no more excuses for us, you are living proof it can be done. Thank you so much!

Awesome interview Jon – congrats on your successes! My mom is an NP and runs a homecare agency, I’ll be sharing your insights with her and also applying them to my own design & consulting firm.

Great work and look forward to hearing more from you in the future.

    Best,

  6. Jon Haws – I thought you one of the most authentic people ever interviewed – admitting when you didn’t know the answers, asking Nick if you should be doing a particular thing…. fantastic work on the side hustle and congrats on being a nice guy
