At Podcast Movement this summer, several friends (Alex, Meron, Bryan, and others) encouraged me “launch a product.”
If that sounds super Internet Marketing-y to you, it did to me too. They argued this was the next logical step for Side Hustle Nation (all the cool kids are doing it!) both from a business standpoint and actually from a helping people standpoint.
I’ve had an idea for a new affiliate site kicking around in my head for a while now, so I thought I’d do a live walk-through of my thought-process and analysis of whether this is an opportunity I should pursue or not.
The idea?
A comparison and review site for meal delivery services like Blue Apron, Plated, Hello Fresh, Gobble, and others.
A couple weeks ago I had the opportunity to join John Lee Dumas on Entrepreneur on Fire, a top business podcast.
At the end of every show, he asks guests his famous “$500 question.” Naturally, there are some common threads in the answers, including the elements I touched on of networking, selling some service, or re-creating what you had on the “old” earth.
But since Side Hustle Nation is a creative bunch, I posed the question to in my email newsletter: What would you do?
Last month I attended two industry conferences, ICON15 in Phoenix and New Media Expo in Las Vegas. My total travel and registration expenses were just $249.98 for both shows combined.
(Not including food and drinks.)
No matter what industry you’re in, I believe conferences are a great way to make lasting connections and friendships, and to learn from leaders in your space.
This is my first attempt at what may turn into a regular series: a quarterly progress report.
Why quarterly? Because months are too short.
Why “progress”? Because that’s what it’s all about.
To me, progress means forward motion, or actively taking the steps to improve each day. It’s one thing we can control.
This month I conducted the first (annual?) Side Hustle Nation member survey, and was grateful to see more than 100 responses!
To incentivize responses, I gave away a free side hustle strategy session and made sure the survey was mobile-ready so it could be done on a phone.
One of the requests projects was a “public coaching” effort, which means I need an audience volunteer. If that sounds like something that would be useful to you, read on.

In September I had the opportunity to speak at our local TEDx event, making the case that millennials are the most entrepreneurial generation in history.
And it’s true; 1 in 3 of us has already started one or more businesses.

Digging through my analytics last week, I stumbled on a surprising find:
SlideShare had driven more referral traffic to SideHustleNation so far this year than Twitter or Facebook.
I was surprised because
It’s a tiny fraction of the size of those other platforms.
I only have 6 presentations there (2 of which were duds).
I have a grand total of 77 SlideShare followers.
